As a child, he moved his audiences to tears with his sweet soprano voice. After training with the noted musician and choirmaster, Zalman Rivlin, z”l, his voice burgeoned into a gloriously vibrant tenor, resounding with a vitality capable of executing the finest and most detailed coloratura unsurpassed by many celebrated contemporary Cantors.
Under the watchful and critical eye of his father, the distinguished Cantor Reb Moshe Leib Erblich, z”l, master and scion of Jewish liturgy, he developed the expressions, nuances, and shadings so necessary for the interpretation of fine cantorials. In fact, it is often said of Cantor Erblich’s presentation of the classic “Rozo D’Shabbos,” that Pinchik, z"l, himself would have come to hear him.
At the age of nineteen, Cantor Erblich began his professional career
chanting the High Holiday services at the New Lots Talmud Torah in New
York, a venue that hosted such talent as Yossele Rosenblatt, z”l,
Mordechai Hershman, z”l, and other equally eminent masters.
